I have modified TTN 5 voices, menus etc. however have a question. What is actually needed to be stored on SD or CF card for TTN5 to operate? I believe it is great britain maps, ZIP (for the postcodes) and VOICES (since I have changed navigation and camera warning sounds).

Are the rest stored safely in main memory?

I also would like some opinion as to the stability and speed of either CF or SD card storage. I have a IPAQ 5455 operating thru a NAVMAN sleeve, so can use either storage format.

NOTHING is safe in main memory. In case of a run down battery or a hard reset all data there is lost.

As a minimum you need the TTN CAB file on the storage card so you can reinstall. Better yet, install TTN to storage card so you can get up and running quickly. There is one critical file (\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.Dat) that you should backup to storage card if you want to get up and running faster.

As a word of caution - don't take storage card as granted safe either. I recently have seen my 1 GB SD card become corrupt and had to reformat it. So - do backups of your PDA to storage card, and backups of your storage card to PC, and do them regularly.

I originally loaded my TTN5 onto my 1Gb hi-speed SD card with the maps etc. I have had horrible problems with it ever since. TTN just crashes all the time. I will start it up in the car, select a route, drive off and everything is fine. I glance up and the PPC is back to the Today screen! If I try to start it up again it cannot run as the content of the SD card is corrupt. A soft reset will allow the system to start back up, but It'll soon crash again!

I am unsure if it is the SD card, the PPC or the TTN5.10 software. I am about to do a complete reinstall on Thursday when I next return home. Hopefully all will be well then.

As can be seen from the info below, all my maps are on a CF card and I don't seem to have any of the software problems I've seen in other forum posts. ( I have had map and routing errors though! :D )

The only time I seem to need a soft reset is when I start TomTom twice by bouncing the stylus or if I start TomTom when there are a lot of other programs in the Task List.

Thanks for the replies!

I seem to think CF has the edge regarding stability. I'm going to try running TTN5.1 from CF only tomorrow (all software and maps). I'll let you know the results.

cheers

No difference in speed or operation if all TTN 5 software on CF card. I've ditched SD card anyway, as I get corruption every now and again...
