Oddball connection problem & advice sought

Hi all

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. I have an O2 XDA 1 running TomTom 5 with a Haicom reciever (wired system) in my vehicle, all works perfect with no problems. I now want to transfer my XDA for use with Memory map onto my mountain bike, this is where the problems start.

My device is not bluetooth enabled, I wish it was but it aint, I know I can get a CF GPS reciever which would just plug in the CF slot and solve the problem but the maps I use are stored on a compact flash card and there is only one slot Crying or Very sad

. There is another connection next to the CF slot that is used to sync the device with the PC and charge the unit but I know not any info on the type of connection this is, even in the manual it refers to this connection as "sync connector", not a lot of help there eh! I there some way of connecting a gps reciever in this senario ? Is there perhaps a card splitter gadget I could use to convert the one slot into two and would this work?? I have searched high and low ontinterweb without much success and I'm hoping you guys will have a magic wand which will put an end to my misery Smile

Mounting the unit is no problem. Powering the thing may be but I'll leap that hurdle when I get to it. I shall wait in eager anticipation for your wealth of experience to hopefully come up with a solution.

you going to need a hike gps ie garmin etrex and a connection cable
pc mobile shold have them you wnt be able to use a cf as the strage is sd and the xda1 as far a i know doesnt support sdio

Hi Alix

You are quite right the XDA1 does not support sdio and I did not know that was a requirement for sd card gps recievers (just my ignorance of GPS & PPC). I did not really want to go down the path of hand held GPS like Garmin ect as the OS memory map software I have installed works well and appeals to me more, I would rather, if I have too, buy a bluetooth enabled PPC. I would even consider a wired system if there was a solution to the power issues.

im not sure if its on contract or not bu have you looked ay upgradeingthe xda to the 2s or 2i

Get a wired GPS unit with the compatable cable for your PDA, then with a trip to Maplins you can purchase a car 12V power outlet, some cable, a fuse and re-chargable batteries (if Ni-Cad they are only 1,2V each so you will need ten) plus you will need a small plastic bow to keep it in (it should be able to mount on the seat support piller - I can send you more info re-wiring this up but it isn't difficult and certainly the cheapest option - Mike
