Hi all;

I have bought a SysOnChip CF Plus II as per the review on this site which mentioned that this GPS unit had a 100% review.

I am using the CF GPS on a HX4700 with the latest firmware, i use TomTom 5.1 as the navigator program.

I am trying to understand the differences between NMEA and Sirf Binary.

Using the SysOnChip GPS Viewer i can set the CF GPS to work on the NMEA mode on com port 6 with a baud rate of 4800, after doing this setup i go to Tomtom setup and select: Other Cable NMEA GPS, 4800 Baud Rate and i select SysOnChip CF SysOn_Chip_CF from the devices list. That works fine it takes some time to find an lock the sattelites, as we speak the gps unit is trying to lock on 5 sattelites in side my house!!!

But when i choose SIRF on the SysOnChip GPS Viewer program and start TomTom and try to setup the GPS device within the software, i am unable to find an option that will start the SysOnChip GPS.

Is it possible to use the SysOnChip CF Plus II in SIRF mode with TomTom 5.1?

And sometime when i am travelling in London i get no sattelites locked at all, any ideas?

Thank you

Lucio

TomTom 5 does not understand SiRF binary any more. You are forced to use NMEA.

Hi Lutz;

Thank you for your reply, when you say TT does not support Sirf anymore, does it mean that others versions supported it?

Do you know any other navigator prohgram that would support Sirf?

As far i can understand Sirf is better than NMea, right?

Thank you

Lucio
