I have been running TTN3 and TTN5 on my 168 for about a year now and while 3 was rock solid. I have had to reinstall my OS and TT5 3 times now on the 168.
I ONLY have TTN5 and Sprite Backup on the PPC and there is nothing running in the back ground.
I find that the time it takes to locate the Sats has doubled if not trippled and everytime i turn off the Mio and then turn it back on again, TTN5 wil have frozen. I then have to do a soft reset to get TTN5 to work again.
The Mio is spot on with TTN3 but its decidely shoddy with TTN5.
However if you can put up with soft resets then go for it.
I doubt that there is another Nav app that is 100% perfect afterall.

I am running this setup with very few issuses, it does freeze on mine when using checkpoint, but if you don't use that it is fine. I find the sat fixes are quicker if you leave it still but as soon as you move it it can take a few minuets more to get a fix, still a good package to use though. |

I use a 168 with TT3, now TT5.0 - no problems. 5.0 seems to take a bit longer finding satellites sometimes (not all the time).
Must investigate whether I should bother going to TT5.1... |

I have TTN5.0 and a Mio 168. I have asked TT whether I should upgrade to 5.1 & await a reply. In the meantime, being the impetuous person I am, I upgraded anyway.
I used the zip file, and it only took a couple of minutes. I can detect no discernable difference from version 5.0. |

My Mio 168 works fine with Tomtom 5. Only time it freezes is when using a utility called ScreenOff to blank the screen but leave the program runnung. Something in the Tomtom software causes a problem. With GPSgate you can use Tomtom5 and Memory Map at the same time or seperatly with no problems of freezing.
With ScreenOff running battery life is extended by 25% (Memory Map running, display on battery 4 hrs. with display off 5 hrs)
With Tomtom5 light does not go out after timeout. With light at mid setting & TTN5 running (voice off) battery life was 2 hrs.
Follow this link for info on a battery extender & ScreenOff

I upgraded to TTN5.1 and think it is slightly better (more stable when mucking about) but no noticeable difference in normal use. _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

I've have been using a Mio 168 with TT5 and Memory Map for about a month or so now. It's an excellent combination and highly recommended with the integrated GPS receiver. So far I've used it in the car, on the bike and walking and I have found it to be highly reliable and great value for money. In fact, it's so good, even my wife is impressed |

Well I have been the proud user of TT5.1 and Mio 168 for just over a week and I have got nothing but praise for it.
As prev mentioned if you dont exit and then turn your screen off you may have to do a soft reset, but apart from that it is fantastic.
Locks on no probs in my Mondeo (with heated front screen) without having to use the external aerial and it will also lock onto satellites whilst I am sitting in my lounge!
Great bit of kit for the money. |

Been using Mio 168 with TTN for more than a year - TTN5 since June.
Has frozen on me twice (both times using TTN5) and each time my fault, not the equipment. Happened after I'd pulled in to refuel and had been too lazy to follow sensible protocols and exit the software before switching off. (Don't like to leave it blazing away publicing itself while I'm away from car paying for fuel!).
Unless you've got a rarely dud Mio, you really shouldn't get lock-ups if you exit TTN5 properly before turning off your Mio. The 168 doesn't like being left to 'run in the background' while you switch your Mio off and back on again. |

This is only with TTN5, all the other programs I've got are ok if you switch off without exiting (some of the windows ones don't even exit when you tap the X to close them) so this is a Tomtom problem & not a Mio one (I believe it happens on ppcs made by a number of manufactures & not just those from Mio).
It seems that Tomtom tends to 'control' the ppc rather than run on it. The 'ScreenOff' utility (blanks the display, leaves the program runnung & requires a quick press on the power button to 'wake up', idea when using Memory Map as you don't need to keep looking at the screen but need it running to log you track.) I use to help conserve battery power works with all programs EXCEPT Tomtom. _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

I used tomtom navigator 5.1 on my Mitac Mio 168 for the first time last night on a trip to Newcastle and I'm sorry to say but it was awful. It lost the signal for approx 60% of the time.
I have the GPS set on the Tomtom Wired GPS receiver as suggested. Is there any other setting I can use to improve the signal strength?
Think I'll go back to using Co-Pilot at least it never lost the GPS signal as bad as tomtom does.

I too have switched from CoPilot to TTN5 on a Mitac Mio 168 and find that TTN5 is really bad at getting a GPS and holding it - whatever setting I use.
Some days are worse than others but it really is the weakest link as far as I'm concerened in a product which in nearly all other respects is far better than CoPilot.
I still keep CoPilot as a fall-back on the Mio for times when TTN5 behaves too badly. _________________ Nokia E65 & TT Nav6 |

I have very little trouble with losing signal on my Mio168 with Tomtom. I use mine in landscape mode so the Mio is mounted sideways on the dash with the antenna folded down flat against the back (not the best position for reception I know but it works for me). On a 40 mile round trip I lost 'map lock' 4 times (total time 10 seconds), each time I was changing direction at a speed in excess of 50 mph. If I used the external antenna I would expect a much better signal. _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

I am having a problem too with my Mio 168.
I attempt to install TT5 but when I open it and have to go throught the setting up wizard for the first time, it freezes when I select a voice.
I then have to turn it off and uninstall it.
Any ideas? |
