Just a couple of questions about satellite use.
I am using TT5 on an XDAII with a Socket BT GPS

Apparently this is a 16 channel unit.
What does this actually mean?
The reason I ask is that I have noticed the following:

For example, in the TT5 GPS status, I get 10 grey sats and 6 blue.
The route overview display shows 1 bar, flicking between 1 and 2 sats.

So how does this all tie in to getting a sat fix?
Why is TT5 showing 6 blue sats, but using only 1 or 2?

TIA.

That'll be the nemerix chipset. The 16 Channel bit is marketing bluff. There are only 24 satellites in operation mode at any one time and so theoretically you could see 12 if you were very lucky! 16 is an impossibility.

It's supposed to speed up fix times although I have not seen any difference.

I don't quite understand your description of TTNav's Sat display? TomTom only has 12 slots, I'm guessing you mean 10 in total?

In that case 10 satellites are in view, 6 have a signal strong enough to work with. How is it flicking between 2 of them exactly?

maybe i was wrong about the 10 grey, but in my "GPS status" window there are 14 "slots" and this had 6 blue bars.
If i go into "View Route" then select "show route summary", in the top left hand corner there is a bar graph and under it it says x satellites (x being a number) and this was switching between 1 and 2 satellites and the bar display had one bar.

What are they talking about then when they say "16 channels", and is "20 channels" the same sort of guff?

I'm not sure if I have a faulty unit, as fix times are very variable. It can take 20-30 minutes sometimes!

A bit more confusion (for me anyway)...

4 blue bars in the "GPS Status" windows shows as 1 bar and 1 satellite in the "show route summary" window.

3 blue bars shows as 0 bars and 0 satellites.

6 blue bars shows as 3 bars and 4 satellites.

So what the heck do these blue bars actually mean?
