Firstly, thank god i found this site this morning!
Since everyone i know now has TomTom Go (and now cannot live without it) I was on my way to buy the PDA version this afternoon. After reading the releveant threads, it has become ovbious that there are issues with TomTom Navigator in combo with my PDA.
The threads explain that the serious memory leak problem can be solved by upgrading to ver5.1 and that the constant crashing problem can be solved by either deleting POI's or copying the ver3 POI.dat over the ver5.1 file.
That advice is undoubtedly great for someone who has already bought the software, but is there not a 'better' piece of software out there (within the context of already owning a VGA PDA)?
Surely as time goes on, the incompatibility of TomTom and more advanced PDAs will become an issue for more and more people.

A mate of mine uses the dell x50v with tt5,1 as I do on the ipaq 4700 (vga) equipped and they work fine - they run a tad hot as the software maxes the processor, but not too bad. I have tried Median as an alternative, but still prefer tomtom - cheers mike

I have the X50 (not the 50v) - tt5.1 is magic.... I have just returned from a wedding trip to Lille, France via Dover/Calais.
During the trip, I needed to get to: the Hotel, Town hall, Church, Brides home, Reception Chattauex (sp?), and several other obscure addresses in the back of beyond! Tomtom found them all faultlessly. At one time, I even had a convoy of French locals following me and Tomtom.....
I cannot comment positively or negatively on other Nav software as I have not tried them. This was my first REAL long distance test of using TT5.1 - I did not use a paper map once...
The ONLY negative comment is that the Country maps stop, absolutely, at the international border! It would be nice to have an overlap of say 10 miles. Twice I had to stop at the border France/Belguim to reset the route!
I cannot praise TT more highly....
A side note: because I knew all of the destinations before I left UK, I decided to write a custom POI for the trip rather than do an itinary or put em in favorites.... That idea worked very well...
Whatever software you get - I wish you well with it.

Not too sure what he has done with POI but as for Medion, I just didn't like the user interface, but what really put me off was the time to load up on the pda - often found I had driven a couple of miles before it became usable, one big plus point for Median was the coverage of Ireland, but I don't go their very often. I still preferred TT3 out of all the ones I have tried, (personal view) - mike
