Best way to use CF GPS on a IPAQ

Just purchased a CF GPS for use on my IPAQ to simplify my installation (I have been feeding a signal from my Garmin II+ via a custom psu).
With this previous setup each program found the gps without any problems.
The CF GPS works using the test program supplied, but I have a struggle with getting each application to find the CF GPS (does sometimes connect).

What is the best procedure for using CF GPS (when to plug in, which programmes to start up first etc)

there is no particular order. It does help if the CF GPS is inserted when the program starts, but good programs can also handle the reverse order. What kind of problems do you see?

Used it yesterday and it now starts up in each program without doing anything.
