Hello to everybody!
I am a little bit confused about my new TomTom Bluetooth device and would like to ask members to help me - it says at the back "MODEL: TOMTOM WIRELESS GPS MkII" - my question is if it is a SRIF III chipset based device or not? If not what should be written at the back? I have done some research on Google but I am still not very convinced.
For any answers and enlighten me will be very grateful.
Regards

yes, it is SiRF III based, albeit with an older firmware.
You can connect it to PC and run SiRFDemo. When you switch the receiver to SiRF mode the program caption will tell you the chipset and firmware version. _________________ Lutz

Brilliant. Thank you for your answer a lot. One more question if I may: what does it mean "with older software" ? It was bought like two weeks ago.... Is it possible to upgrade in any way and if yes what are the advantages of the "new" firmware ? (If I can find all thouse information on the forum please just give me a lead and I will find it on my own - this forum is so huge ;) |

You may have read that the GlobalSat BT-338 just had a firmware upgrade to 3.1.1 , which fixed some issues and added SBAS functionality.
The TomTom receiver runs on firmware 3.02 but to be honest I haven't found any issues with it yet, not even the ones that were appearing on the Globalsat.
So for the time being just relax and enjoy that receiver, it certainly is one of the best receivers on the market right now. _________________ Lutz
