:x I purchased an icn 635 a couple of monthes ago. I was quite impressed with the unit at first but i soon learned i had a problem with the unit. When its been on for a while it turns its self off, i persisted with this for a while, but was not impressed as i am a taxi driver. I contacted navman , they said it could be the power lead, so i tried a friends and its still the same. Contacted Navman again they said it sounds like the unit is shutting its self down due to an over heat protection device which is built in. I had the unit replaced and what do you know, the replacement is the same. Should i ask for my money back or ask for another unit ?. Not cheap at £499.00 so i expect something that works. Will be contacting Navman again.

Generally it works. I had no problems with mine whatsoever. However, sometimes it happens, as you described and can be read elsewhere in this forum:

Give it a try, exchange it with Navman.
Good luck!

If the screen is too bright the display will go blank but you should still have voice guidance. ( according to the online manual ). So the message is only have the screen bright enough to read. I can read mine in full sunlight on a setting of 3 quarters ( I have not yet been unable to read it). Also I can hear the voice guidance over the car radio ( at a normal volume) with no difficulty.
