Hi All

Do some motor manufacturers windscreens block signals more than others.

I have been evaluating a "no name" all in one mobile system. It works great in several cars
Jag,Bmw,Audi,Peugeot. but not in Renaults scenic or laguna.

Anyone had similar experiences.

thx
Rob

Some car windscreens are known to deflect GPS signals, Ford's with quick clear front screens do, and the Peugeot 206cc with its athermic windscreen do. I would imagine Renaults do as well as they have some fancy filters in their screens.

Hope this helps. Smile

Are you sure??.....I've never hear of any problems wth the Ford quick-clear screens.....even my old GPS reciever never had any problems (Not sayin you are wrong, I've just not heard of any probs)

The screens that DO give problems a are the IR-reflective screens (have a red/blue look to them....popular or renaults etc)

More cars are being fitted with them, as they are more cost-effective than Air-Con (Not as a replacement, but if you stop the car heating up too much in the first place, you can get away with a cheaper/smaller A/C unit)

It may be down to how sensitive the receiver is, but the tomtom Mk1 BT receiver wont work on the Ford Focus with quick clear front screen, I have tried it, ended up putting it on the rear parcel shelf. Surprised me to be honest as its just fine wires running down the screen, but I have read about that somewhere else (not sure if it was a forum on here). Most cars though these days have an area by the rear view mirror that allows these signals, and others to pass through. Not sure about Renault though.

If your GPS unit will accept an external aerial feed (small connector on the unit) try an external antenie, if not you could get a re-radiating GPS unit to "squirt" the signals through to the inside of the car - not cheap, but probably less than changing the motor!!, alternate try moving the GPS to different location, rear shelf or adjacent to rear side window - which should be "normal" glass - Mike

Quick answer: Yes but some manufacturers renault I think is one, that leave an area behind the rear view mirror specifically for phone/gps.

Check with your car handbook or dealer to see if your car is involved and if it has the "sweet spot" behind the mirror
