Make your own GO 300 External Antenna

Just thought you'd like to know that you can modify the new GO 300 mount to include the external aeriel from the old Antenna kit.

Here's what you need: 1 x Torx T6 Screwdriver, 1 Torx T8, 1 x Tomtom GO External Antenna (Part no. ID00.001).

Method:

Peel back the thin end of the rubber pad on the bottom of the GO external antenna mount to locate two T6 screws. Remove these and unclip the base. Underneath you will find a metal plate with two T8 screws in, remove these and the plate comes off. Rotate the top of the mount and it pops out from the base. Underneath the metal ring are two more T6 screws. Remove these and take the plastic plate off. From here you can remove the aeriel connection from the top of the mount.

Repeat the above process to disassemble the mount for the GO 300. On the top of the mount, where the connector is, peel off the black sticker around the connector and you will find that it covers a hole already there for the aeriel to fit in (the mount contains all the fittings for the external antenna). Place the antenna into the GO 300 mount and re-assemble.

Hey Presto! Aeriel mount for the GO 300 for those who don't want to wait for Tomtom to release the new kits. Did this today as my car has an Anti-Thermic coat on the windscreen, now have a brilliant signal all the time.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't think of that before !

An excellent solution which does make you wonder WHY TomTom do not seem able to supply the TTG300 mount as it's only a reconfigured TTG mount.

I have just done this today,and it is superb.It was pretty easy to do and I am as ham fisted as they come.They only problem I had was working out where the 2 spare screws came from.(had to take it apart again to find out).

Overall though it has transformed my TTG300 and I would definately reccommend it for anyone having the windscreen problem.

Would there be a problem shortening the cable so the the connector is almost "chassis mounted" to the GO base? I attach the GO to the bottom right of the windscreen, so the standard metre of cable would just dangle behind the steering wheel.

If I get an aerial I would want to keep the detachable bits to a similsr size to the present with a short length of aerial cable coming out of the A pillar to the bracket.

Thanks for the great advice and detail given in this article. I like many others proberly kept looking on E-bay at the external antenna and mounts but feel ripped off i have to buy anothe rmount on top of my 500 price. Ok so you can modify your 300/500/700 mount had a look and took it to bits not to hard it seems not having a classic mount and aerial to hand can anyone tell me if i can use any external aerial instead of a genuine go classic one as i have about 5 different aerials with different connectors from other GPS units kicking around the house. Thanks for any help
