I've just downloaded beta 4.50.47 and notice it includes proximity alerts. Has anybody been able to set these up with the speed camera database?

I'm currently into the 3rd day of my 9 day map trial and I'm impressed so far - POI alerts would pretty much complete things for me.

If anyone can suggest any other reasons why I should / should not try and cancel my order for TomTom5 I'm all ears.

Cheers,

Chris

I'd suggest you contact Oldie to see if he can include it in his tool.

By the way, we're at version 4.54 already.

Thanks Lutz,

I have downloaded 4.54 but haven't had a chance to take it for a drive yet.

I've used POIConverter to convert the speed camera database into *.gpx format and then used the instructions from the link here to turn this into maplet format:

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5376

Which seems to work.

I'll contact Oldie as well.

Cheers,

Chris

Here's another instruction set that was mentioned to me - haven't checked it yet.

Thanks Lutz, that is even better - explains the format of the GPX file and how to use the GPXtoMaplet tool more clearly.

The only limitation now seems to be that you can't have different proximity alerts for different POIs - if you enable proximity alerts it has to be for all POI categories and all at the same distance.

The Help page implies that you can have different settings for different POI categories, so I guess this may be something they are working on?

Cheers,

Chris

I am currently using the speed camera database on the latest beta version of mapopolis.

Just go to the proximity alert setup and select `Waypoints'. The camera locations will then be displayed visually depending on the range that you set. You get a visual and aural warning when you are in range

Thanks Gazza,

I am as well, and very good it is too. The current beta is a release candidate, so when it is released and a wishlist is opened for the next version, I'm going to ask if it is possible to have different proximity alerts for different POIs - I like to have plently of warning for mobiles (1200M or so) which is way too much for Gatso and Truvelo.

Cheers,

Chris

The link to www.modaco.com doesn't seem to work, and there are no instructions on the download page for using the Pocketgpsworld safety camera database with Mapopolis. Could someone who has done it successfully please outline (in simple terms) how

Its dead easy now - the speed camera database now includes a maplet (*.mlp) file - simply download this to your pocketpc (I use the same folder as my maps) and select it together with whichever maps you are using.

Go to proximity alerts and select 'Cameras' (changed from 'Waypoints') and job done.

Chris,
When I looked at the database, I found two files, one called mlp and the other called mlp files. Which is the correct one to use?

Not sure what you mean Robin - in the folder 'single file version' there should be a folder called 'mlp files'. In this folder is the file 'pocketgps_uk_sc.mlp'. This is the file you want to copy to your pocketpc.

Then goto 'Choose map(s)' in Mapopolis and select 'pocketgps_uk_sc' and you should have the speed cameras

HTH,

Chris

Problem solved Chris. The one labelled mlp was the latest, which contained everything I needed. The one labelled mlp files was older....at some time a few months ago Pocketgpsworld must have changed the name of the file, so subsequent updates didn't overwrite the old one
