Permanent Supply to Wired GPS

I've just finished hardwiring my TT5 into my car.
Now that I have, will I be doing my wired receiver any harm
having a supply 24/7?

It would have been better to taker a supply from the ignition side of the circuit so it was only powered with the ignition on.

Mine has been powered 24/7 since January without any problems.

Ok, so I never leave my car for more than 1 day without use,

The only thing I've found is that the BT receiver battery has lost performance and only lasts 3-4 hours max,

Suppose I should take it out every few weeks or so to drain the battery,

I usually only use the car at weekends and there is no sign of significant battery drain. My understanding is they draw power at less than 100mA meaning a fully charged car battery should allow them to run for a couple of hundred hours before there is a significant impact.

With power switched off to the Seidio G2100 mount and the TT GPS I can leave the car parked up for 15 days at Heathrow and still start it on my return, leave power turned on and the battery is to low to start after 6 days. Mind you it is a 3.0 ltr V6 automatic. I'll put an Avo into the circuit and see just how much current the unit is drawing.

My tomtom wired GPS has been powered up since TTN2! I often don't use my car for a week or 2 if the weather is good as I'm on my Vespa (Now fitted with a RAM mount as I kept getting lost without tomtom hehe). I have never come back to a flat battery on the car.

I once had an Astra (bows head in shame Embarassed

) which had no false ignition so could not have radio on while in car without engine running (unless I powered radio from permanent feed which I did not want to do as it would be all to easy to forget to switch it off when leaving the car) so I fitted a button switch & relay into the power line. Turning the ignition off with the button pressed, the relay would latch keeping radio supplied with power. Turning the ignition off without the button pressed and the power to radio was switched off.

It's simple to do, may solve your problem!
