CF GPS receiver - what chipset?

hey

i recently bought this Rx from nex_gensales on ebay (wish i'd done my research on the seller first!)

however, i cannot get it to lock onto a signal, having tried all methods i am aware of.

resetting it for 5 seconds, leaving it switched on in clear view of sky (outdoors) for up to 8 hours. a couple of bars may pick something up, and it appears to recognise 8 satellites.

i use NMEA v0183 @ 4800 baud using CF CARD GENERIC as device.

it was purchased for convenience, as a sort of all-in-one unit, but i now know it is absolute rubbish and i'll keep my wired device instead. i just want to make sure it works ok before getting rid.

can anyone identify the chipset this unit has? or if it sells under a different brand? ideally i'd like to know about firmware updates for it if any. should any user have used this and has any more suggestions then please feel free to PM me or reply here!

forgot to mention, using TT5 and an ipaq 3870 with CF sleeve, updated to PPC2003.
