Will I regret not buying a Tom Tom Go 300?

Hi all.

About to purchase a Garmin Quest. But I'm scared that I should be going for the Tom Tom Go 300.

All views welcomed. Ultimately, I'm interested in your views whether the Quest, on balance, is as good as the GO 300.

I've both a Quest and a GO 700. They both have their strengths:

In summary, they are both very good. For me the GO is best in the Car, but to use it elsewhere then the Quest is the Daddy.

I would say, get a Garmin C320. It has a similar screen size to the Go, excellent sound, plus the benefit of 3D Navtech maps(Go 300 use Teleatlas maps). Also, you get the European maps on CD, while the Go 300 is UK only.

The UK maps come on a 256MB SD card, with bigger cards you can have as many maps as you want.

The C320 doesnt support speed cameres database, I dont have a problem with that. Also, it doesnt support PC route planning(not a problem for me) or postcode search(never had trouble finding a road for me).

Personally, I think the screen is too small on the Quest, unless you absolutely have to have a small unit.

I have read on the forums that the Go suffers from issues with losing satellite lock and inacurate maps, so I went for the C320.

There's so much good advice here it must make choosing all the more difficult! :D All this means is that there's a lot of happy customers out there and you'll probably end up being one of them by buying just what you want and not regretting it at all.

I bought a Quest simply because I wanted a unit that would work in a car or on a mountain bike and then slip into my pocket when I came to the end of a journey. It does all three brilliantly. In fact, in many respects its a better performer than the £1500 intergrated Nav I had in a Jaguar.

The small screen has never bothered me. Using RAM mounts in the car (and on the bike) the Quest is mounted in a position easily readable without being a hazard or distraction. In that respect it is also beter than the Jaguar which whilst having a large screen (7") is well out of eye line. In any case, when you're wanting the Quest to navigate I'll guess you'll use the voice feature which is to an acceptable standard with the latest upgrades.

It's a very personal thing. Try writing down in a priority order what you're looking for in terms of feature and performance. Strolling around this sites will give you lots of clues as to what's good at what and what isn't. If audible warning of speed camera locations and large screen is high on your list that should lead you one direction. If you want portability that'll take you another way.
