|
|
Am I the only person in these forums that thinks the new TomTom receiver is a sexy little beast. It looks absolutly gorgeous and I quite often find myself sitting at my desk at work, holding her and stroking her rubberized panels. I genuinly think shes going to become a style icon and people will be putting chains through the hole in the middle and wearing her round their necks. Am I becoming obsessed?
On a slightly more serious note, if I switch the receiver on before I switch on TomTom on my XDA I never seem to get a sattelite fix. If I do it the other way round, no problem at all. Are all receivers like this or is this just another TomTom bug (or is it just my unit)? |

I like the looks but think it is slower to get a fix than the old model and so far have not seen any improvement with reception - thought it was supposed to work without having to sit in the car window - mines drops almost completely if I take it off the dash
kind regret upgrading to it now and probably gonna send it back as I have a 4700 and it wont work for more than 40 minutes |

I hope this new BT GPS receiver is better,
I hope it's more sensitive, otherwise it's just gona be a waste of time getting it,
Does it have magnets in the base like the old BT GPS?

On average mine gets a signal after about 15-20seconds, and it doesn't seem to matter where in the car I position it, it never looses that signal.

Theres definatley no magnets. I'm afraid I didn't have the MkI model either so can't compare. |

I'm glad it doesn't have magnets :D
One problem with carring the old receiver was that it had to be kept away from bank cards (Magnetic strip), as it could all to easly wipe them,
Anyone tried carring the new one in there pocket and walking around with it? Does it still get a good signal?
The old one just about worked inside (Single roof factory), new one any better or the same?

I have, in fact it's in my pocket right now and I don't know it's there. Quite pleased at how small it is. I took it out walking recently and walked along holding it in my hand and looking at the GPS signal readout, then I put it in my pocket and saw no noticable difference in the singal strength. I also used it in my car with the receiver still in my pocket and it worked there too.

I can agreee wholeheartedly with your comments. It is a far more sensitive receiver than the Mark I version. I tend to keep the unit out with a clear view of the sky until it gets a fix, then it is put into the glove compartment for the whole journey where it always gets at least 6/7 satellites. The battery also seems to be far better at holding its charge between uses. With the Mark I, I always had to charge it after not using it for a few days. With the Mark II, it appears not to need charging if I have not used it for a few days. (I had better explain that I use it connected to the original TomTom Cradle to power it when in my car). |

Hi just got mine delivered today and out of the box it's ran for 4 hrs so far.
I got this model after borrowing a Mk1 from a friend which had mains charger. I went bluetooth 1. no wired on dash etc 2. portable when out and about.
Mk2 only has car charger - shafted me good time. Now need wires.
As to finding signal i've turned it on XDA2 found it and locked on in 30 secs. So looks good so far.
Anybody know the run time on the Mk2.
