Has anyone any idea how far 1mb of GPRS data will last when using Tom Tom Traffic. I have been quoted £7.50 per Mb by my mobile phone company.
I would like to get a handle on what the cost might be for the service
Regards John

I know I've read a thread about this but I can't quite remember where - my memories not qute what it was Embarassed . If its not this site try www.tekguru.co.uk and search the forums there.

Basically what they seemed to be saying was that there was very little actual data downloaded so the cost was fairly cheap. However £7.50 per Mb is ridiculous - you might want to check to see whether they have tariffs that include a GPRS bundle. I'd never recommend moving to O2 but their GPRS costs about £2.50 a Mb!

The link to this traffic forum is broken. Does not anyone know how much data is downloaded in traffic updates, weather etc. Surely this info should be on the TomTom site which seems pretty useless for technical info?

Ridcully,

Go to the forum index and just under the TomTom Navigator link, there's another for Traffic. I've posted something about this and the general suggestion was under 1MB per month.

Search for my posts and you'll find it from that with a similarly titled thread.

Thanks for all the replies. I have taken a quick look at the Trafic Forum and it seems most are not very impressed with the sevice so far. Data transmitted by Trafic over GPRS is small so a Mb goes quite a long way.

I am in the process of updating my Mobile. I only have low usage so want to go PAYG. Carphone warehouse spent a lot of time on the telephone for me trying to find a company that did PAYG GPRS. The only on they found was Vonafone. I then managed to confirm by E'mail with Vodafone the £7.50/Mb.
However, looking at the Trafic Forum other comanies may well offer it too.
More reading required!!

Regards John.

You can actually access traffic for TOMTOM through the Orange Wap APN.

I use this on a Virgin Tarriff offered by Orange and data costs me £4 for 10Mb although this offer may no longer be offered.

I would consider Orange PAYG as you can get 4M for £4.
