Mio 268 and total confusion!

Why am I confused? All I want for my Mio 268 is a speed camera database. All I also want is up to date mapping. I can't seem to get either. Is the only way of getting the camera database on the machine to unlock it using that complicated french website page? On the Tom Tom Go 300, I just synched over a cab file and it was done. Why can't I do the same here?
Why do Mio only update maps annually? I have a two year old Mio laptop in which the BIOS has never been updated! Disgusting support really!
Any information to add to what what should be a good product would be welcome. I am not into editing files etc to make them work on my 268. Why should we? I got rid of a perfectly good TTG 300 for this trynig to save some money. I wish I could turn the clock back.
