Is there such a piece of software or device that will tell you the allowed speed of the road you are on (30mph zone, etc). There must be a database of this sort of thing, you wouldn't expect whoever is in charge of britains roads to not know what speed a given road is without actually visiting it to check. So someone must have such information.
How come this never makes it into navigation software? (that I'm aware of). I don't see that it could be considered sensitive information. No more so than speed cam locations.
I just think it would be really handy, yet constantly overlooked in navigation software. Unless of course it is in some way sensitive information. |

Yeah it is a good point that satnav could tell you the exact speed of the road, but what if it got it wrong and you where on a 30 and tomtom classed it as national speed limit, could you blame tomtom for the speeding ticket? TomTom 3 has a saftey speed limit you can set to if you increase over this then you get a warning, not so good when going from motorway to city driving.

Obviously this is available on the likes of Origin, etc...but I've no idea why Tom Tom et al havn't bundled a decent combination of the sat nav and speed camera software. I only got the origin B2 because the checkpoint database of fixed cameras on my TomTom was complete pants, plus I needed the added protection of the mobile camera " garage door opener"...

I thought the Origin had a laser detector, not a jammer?? Or is this another piece of kit  |

It's another piece of kit, called a "Target LRC100". It comes with it's own mounting kit and power supply, but it can be directly plugged into the B2 harness. It's not cheap either, costs £250+, but it has saved me 3 points on at least one occassion.
Incidentally my B2 blew up the other day, and origin claim it's caused by the LRC100. They say although it looks like a sealed unit, it can allow water in, which shorts back to the head unit.
Also, the LRC100 has now been superceeded by a xx400 version.
