I live in Dallas, Texas USA. I want a GPS system for my car. Turn by turn and voice. I would like to load maps for Dallas, Ftworth and surrounding areas and need nee to laod them each time I want to travel.
I don't own a PDA at this time. I'm not sure if I even need a PDA but if it makes sense to get one then fine. I'll get one.
Here are the functions I want. Map(s) stay loaded. So really what I need is either a stand alone GPS system for turn by turn voice nav or a PDA/GPS type device that gives me the same functions. Ideally, turn the unit on, type in an address either on the touchpad or thumbpad, have the sat find me and off I go. I want the GPS to hold the maps and not have to load them each time or have to load them from the computer each time onto a device unless I am leaving town. Another function is the abilty to store addresses, like home, office. One button picks up where I am then routes me to those preset addresses.
A friend of mine has a GPS system in his car radio, each time he wants to use it he must load a cd, let the CD find the address then it routes, If he turns the car off then he must reload the cd and the map and do it all over again. There's got to be an easier way.
So, the main focus is on GPS not wireless e-mail, connecting to corporate LAN or pocket PC. I won't be using this out of car and I don't hike. It's about streets and not about streams. I hope this narrows down some choices.
I see so many PDA's out there, so many versions of GPS software and hardware, mice/ bluetooth and all the rest. It's so confusing and can get very expensive and even though I could spend more I could still be making a mistake.
So, can you please help me narrow my choices down. PDA/Software/hardware. I'm looking for solid price/performance values and ease of use. Please help.
