Hi,
I have been using Checkpoint for a while together with TT5.21 on a HP HX4700. Everything works fine except from recording of a new POI. This situation despite the applications are running, the GPS has a fix, buttons are assigned but does not result in any recording when pushed.

In relation to above I have been considering to change Checkpoint to POICapture and have the following questions:
1) What's the differencies between the two (also some pro - cons arguments for respective appl.)
2) Does the POICapture POI database support all TT5 european maps (may I expect to find positions of speadcameras to the same extent as checkpoint for different countries ?)
3) Are there any issues with POICapture together with my HW/SW configuration

Apreciate some views on this from people having experience from both

I think you mis-understand what POICapture is.

POICapture is for capturing location information, relating to Speed Cameras and is not a POI Warning Program, which CheckPoint serves as.

As such one cannot be used to replace the other.

Thanks for the reply Oldboy:
My take on this that Checkpoint did both the warning and the recording. By saying so, I am basically referring to the Checkpoint Manual section
"Manual - Recording your own POI's

Sometimes you come across a point of interest that is not in any of your overlays yet. Then you need a quick way to remember it!
CheckPOInt allows you to use one of the "application launch" buttons on your Pocket PC to do so. Which one of the buttons should be reserved for this purpose, can be specified in the General Settings.
Once you press the specified "application launch" button the following window appears: etc ..........."

However, I have never got that functionality to work properly, which was the reason why I have considered to swap to something thats proven to work OK.

Would appreciate if you could advice me here.

TT has a number of ways that you can create a POI category and/or add a location to it.

In Change Preferences > Manage POI you can Add POI Category and then you can Add POI to that category using several means that are offered to you in the menu.

You can also Add POI in Browse Map, using a similar menu structure.

The advantage is that it doesn't need a third party app to do it.

Right. See where you're coming from now.

If I'm doing it 'on the road', I generally use Add Favourite > GPS Position and accept default text. When in the comfort of my armchair I can Find each of the Favourites and Add As POI, changing the Text as necessary.

I use Browse Map for that.

I then Delete the locations from Favourites in Manage Favourites.

Thanks for this clarification Oldboy.

However still do not understand how you manage the camera position for reporting purposes (meaning, how do you figure out the Lat/long position) ?

If you create a POI Category for reporting cameras, this will insert the necessary lat/long into the POI.

If you then copy this POI to the PC you can email the ov2 file, as an attachment, to cameras@pocketgpsworld.com

Oldboy,
one more question if I may:
If I would like to make a sanity check of the positions from the recordings stored in the .ov2 file (which could for instance be stored in a "New Spead Camera Positions" POI category and extract Lat/Longs, could I just copy the .ov2 to the PC and browse the file.

Would I need any particular application to translate the Lat/Long format from the .ov2 file to a standard format ?

You would need a Program to convert the ov2 file to a Text File.

You could try POIEdit or Dumpov2. Personally I use the Makeov2/Dumpov2 set.

It can be downloaded from my Webspace, POI Page, and in Windows Explorer just drag the ov2 file to Dumpov2. This will create an ASC File which can be opened with Notepad.
