maybe you have reprogrammed the receiver and now the GSV sequence is not sent any more?

Lutz,

What does this mean, my son has a Medion MD9500 (clone of Mio 168) and has the same problem - GPS works fine but doesnt show any satellites being received. I have the same software TTN5) on my Mio 168 and it shows number of satellites etc. I am confused by this.

Regards,

Ian

I have the same problem, just received the TomTom Navigator 5 upgrade today, and install it right way in my iPAQ 3630.

I'm using original TomTom wired GPS (black in colour, Leadtek 9531/or 32?). TT5 can find my location but the satellites bar also shows nothing. I tried to run Leaktek's Navigator to check the Sat status and weird enough, it too can't show any Sat info now!

It was fine before I update to TT3 this morning! Any idea? Question

TT5 doesn't show the number of satellites, but it should show a block like the signal strength indicator on a mobile phone. Presumably you can still view the satellite status by clicking on GPS to see how many satellites have been acquired. (I can't check because mine - ordered on June 1 - still hasn't left the warehouse grrrrr)

Yes, I know, but that "signal bar" area is showing empty blocks, I even clicked into the TomTom GPS status area and found no info about individual Sat (Sat number, each Sat signal strength.. etc etc), the TomTom GPS status screen only shows the location and speed.

I have a similar bug with TTN5.0 on my 2210 with Globalsat SD-501. It’s all working fine but as I type this the status summary page (not the signal indicator) shows 2 satellites being received when the GPS Status Page shows 7 satellites being received with 7 red bars. If I then go into any of the three Main Menu pages, in the bottom left corner it says “No valid GPS signal!” – yet everything is working perfectly!!

I have the same problem the status summary page shows 2 or 3 satellites but the gps page shows more satellites

other problem is some point of interest like petrol station, hospital, restaurant, post office, open parking, nightlife, beach, car repair, cash dispenser,college/uni,company,golf course, mountain pass
all these point of interest which come as standerd on the map when you want to navigate to onr of them it says no POI found

but when select them to be showing on the map they do show

am i doing something wrong or ist normal???

never had this problme with tt3

Can you all confirm that GSV is being sent? If not then navigation will still work but the number of sats in view (SV) will not be shown, giving he results that you see

Ah, think I've found what you mean - the $GPGSV string. The SD-501 comes with a program called GPS Info. This only seems to be able to be run when TTN (either version 3 or 5) is not running. When this is so then the GSV information is being received and the number of satellites received is shown within the GPS Info program.

To get TTN to run (either version 3 or version 5) the GPS Info program has to be inactive or else nothing happens with satellite reception in the TTN program. Similarly if you try to start the Globalsat GPS Info program once TTN is running then nothing happens - GPS Info opens but will not run.

Having said all that, the others who are reporting this problem do not have the SD-501 and the common denominator seems to be TTN version 5.

My guess is that TTN5 is parsing the GSV string differently. It's well possible that different NMEA versions construct this string slightly differently (like, adding a data valid flag) , TTN5 expects the latest version of the string format and falls over when it meets older versions.

Just a wild guess.

Just tested it and it may actually be GSA, not GSV

Working:
Code:
$GPGSA,A,3,02,04,,08,,13,16,,23,24,27,,2.0,1.2,1.6*3D
$GPGSV,3,1,11,02,49,286,49,04,51,207,43,06,05,340,33,08,19,181,41*7E
$GPGSV,3,2,11,10,22,294,37,13,71,060,50,16,11,045,45,20,08,112,00*7A
$GPGSV,3,3,11,23,36,064,49,24,19,169,37,27,46,158,48*41

Not working:
Code:
$GPGSA,A,3,04,13,02,27,24,10,,,,,,,3.0,1.9,2.3*3E
$GPGSV,3,1,10,13,72,060,40,04,51,206,38,02,48,286,36,27,45,158,39*75
$GPGSV,3,2,10,23,37,064,00,10,20,292,37,24,20,169,30,08,17,180,00*7E
$GPGSV,3,3,10,16,11,046,00,20,08,112,00*75

Note how in the second version the GSA sats are lumped together whereas in the first example they appear in the same order as in the GSV strings.

Hi

I've got a Medion PPC250 and a RoyalTek RGM2000 GPS wired Receiver and my signal indicator bars do not work.

This seems to be a very common problem for PDA which are not listed on the TTN5 compatibility list.

Same problem
BC307 TTN5
although I do get some bars some of the time but often no bars but navigation continues OK

Just replaced my BC307 with Leadtek BT LR9537 this seems OK.
