Hi. I am currently using Tomtom 3 with a sleeve called the CoPilot GPS Jacket Model IGPSJ Model Number D15A8.

This worked fine (albeit with occasional fix losses) with my old car, but my new car has one of those new fangled heat resistant windscreens that won't let any GPS signal through. Sad

My sleeve has a gold connector on the back, exactly the same as shown here:

However, I have no idea which connector will fit in it. I want to be sure that the external antenna that I buy will actually fit!

Also, when I do get the external antenna, how will I fit it? I know there is a magnet that fits on the roof, but what about the wire? How can I get that into the vehicle without keeping a window open (I have air con, don't want to keep windows open Rolling Eyes).

I really appreciate any help that you can give my with this matter.

Many thanks,
jibberjabber25.

Hope tyhat is of assistance

Thanks, I purchased the external ariel from expansys, and got the right one. Haven't tried it on the car yet, but it fits and works.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to place it? It's waterproof and magnetic (very strong magnet) so I can pop it on the roof, but the kids around here would have it off in a second!

This means that everytime I get I want to use it I will have to place it on the roof and remove it when I am done, but is it difficult to run the wire through the door trim? I will have to do this every time so does anyone know a quick way that I can do this?

Many thanks in advance.

It's OK actually. I placed it in the little square gap in the middle at the bottom of the windscreen. Gets up to 8 satellites, and NEVER goes under 5. That's just great. I was normally getting 3-4 before and sometimes it would go down to 2 (that means loss of fix!).

For anyone else having trouble, to get a fix I use strong adhesive velcro. So when I want to put the ariel up I just affix it with the velcro, and it stays put. No need for gooey sticky tape! Once I'm done, just rip it off, and it comes off, no problems! One side of the velcro is on the windscreen permananenly and the other side is on the ariel permanently.

This means that once I'm done, I can quickly rip the ariel off and stick the ariel in the glovebox and take the pocket pc with me...No one will know you have an ariel in the car when you are parked up, no one can vandalise it because it's in the car, not on the roof...good solution for those who live in dodgy places like me. ;)
