Are their any plans to allow users to run Tomtom Nav5 on a desktop computer as this would give us a more user friendly environment to work on when planning & checking routes.

I can do this with Memory Map software & it makes life so much easier.

Not the best solution but I believe there is an emulator for PPC 2003 that lets you run PPC apps on a desktop.

Not sure where to look fro this, try googling it

...I can confirm that it runs nicely on the new Device Emulator. The only caveat right now is that you need a serial/USB GPS receiver. The emulator doesn't work with BT receivers.

You can even beef up the display size to 600x800

I tried installing that once about a year ago. After 3 hours of trying to compile the various dependancies I gave up!

Is it any better now?

That one requires the PPC2003 SDK and C++ (250MB download) to be installed. I was hoping for a simple program that just emulated rather than all the development options.

Just installed it now and it works :D .
Even managed to connect to it via ActiveSync.

I installed TomTom3 but couldn't install a map as there wasn't enough space. Anyone know how I can get a virtual CF card for my imaginary pocketpc? :P

Looks great. Been playing with it for a while. Tried to install TomTom3, the install went okay and then I ran it and the wizard process came up.. at which point it froze up, soft reset didn't fix it so had to hard reset and of course it's all gone.

Does that mean you HAVE to have a GPS reciever or will it work without?

I just want to plan & view the routes then download them to my PPC as useing a desktop in a car causes problems if the mains extention is not long enough.

>runs nicely on the new Device Emulator<

I'm surprised, I thought TT used their own low-level code to handle screen display etc. and the emulator only trapped Windows CE API calls. I guess they've modelled the h/w too, as per VMWare.
