I bought the TomTom HP edition in Feb 2005 (which I believe is roughly the same version as TT Navigator 3).

I have a 128MB SD card in the HP iPAQ rz1710.

I found the correct upgrade link for Navigator 5 on TomTom's website (specifically for HP Edition), paid my money and received the upgrade CD's.

Question 1: When I upgrade by following the installation wizards, it all seems successful. However when I start the TomTom application on the PDA, there are no maps installed. I.e. I receive an error when starting the application saying "No maps found!"

Question 2: I tried to install the maps to a different location, selecting SD card. I then received an error "Volume not found" on the PC.

Question 3: I successfully installed to my PC's hard disk, and noticed that the space required is close to 200 MB if the full Great Britain option is chosen. Does this mean I will have to buy a new SD card (1 GB = £112 !!) in order to get it all working?

TIA

You can get a 512MB card for a little over £25

The normal GB map is 110 MB, will fit on your 128 MB card.

If you are installing to teh SD in the 1710, you should not choose Other location, but PocketPC. Then you choose Storage card out of the 3 offered options.

The TT navigation pack ran TT4 not TT5. When I upgraded mine I found that the upgrade fails to remove the TT4 data from the card. Part of that is an autorunning application that looks for TT4 and if itdoes not find it - it installs TT4 (over the TT5 you have lovingly installed)! I you have replaced your TT4 map with a TT5 one it will complain there are now no maps.

The solution is to remove all files from the SD card, place the TT5 map on it, and then install the TT5 application. (After that you can add the empty TomTom folder needed to get the post code data to work.)
