Hi sorry my first post is a request for help but heres my problem.
I recently bought second hand (from a boot sale) an Ipaq rz1710 complete with tomtom installed, original tomtom sd card, cradle and gps receiver. all was fine for about 6 weeks.
then I went on holiday when I returned my ipaq had drained of all power, no problem I thought, so I charged it back up and all my software was missing it had restored to factory settings I even had to set up the owner info again.
BUT tomtom tries to install from the sd card and gives me a device code and in return asks for an activation code??
but i dont have a product code to get one as all i got with it was as listed above?
how can I restore my beloved tomtom.
Help please Lezzzzzzz...........

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you need an activation code.

The activation code is given either from the CD insert or on a slip of paper that came with the SD card. Basically without it, your system is defunct.

The good news is TomTom will re-issue it, provided you can prove that you purchased this and send them a copy of the receipt. However, car booters tend not to hand over all the purchase documentation.

Do you know who sold it to you? They may have the activation code or the original invoice of the purchase. That is the only way forward I am afraid.

Each version of tomtom may be activated TWICE. I'm assuming you have the device code but not the software code; if you give TomTom support the device code they are more likely to agree you have the software legitimately because that device code will be on record, and if you ask VERY nicely they may give you the software code that corresponds with that device code.

They only want to stop pirates copying their software. Whether you bought it from a car boot or not, if you can prove your device had the software legitimately, they may well give you the correct code to match up.

@whisperwolf,

Sorry, yes you are right, 2 activations in a six month period I think is their policy, however..

@lez,

This will take time! TT are not known for this ability to respond quickly.

Actually if you have the product code the device code will still be the same after a hard reset therefore all you need to do is go to the www.ttcode.com site and enter your product code. This will then show which device codes have been activated against it yours should be one of them.

You can do this as often as you like as you are not activating a new device, just reactivating an existing one.
