Many of you know the history of Pocket GPS but for the ones that don't, here's a little insight. I had the idea and original concept for Pocket GPS over three years ago because there was no resource on the internet that showed GPS Product reviews or allowed for discussion of them. By May 2002 I managed to convince a few other like minded enthusiasts to join me in helping to create the world's first Pocket PC GPS Resource, and that was Pocket GPS. The site went live in August 2002 and since then the market literally exploded and the site literally grew up over night and became the massive resource you see before you today.
Times change, and of late I've had very little time to devote to Pocket GPS World. With family members being in and out of hospital, and my recent accident, it's highlighted this even further. I have also recently been offered and accepted a high profile position to augment my career further into the GPS market.
The position I have accepted is with ALK Technologies Limited, and I hope to help improve the UK and European support operations and help with input on product enhancements and new releases.
As working for ALK will be a conflict of interest in terms of writing reviews, I have discussed this extensively with the rest of the team and to make sure that it doesn't affect the team or impact the website (apart from my the loss of my input and reviews), I have decided to step down my position of Executive Editor for PocketGPSWorld.com and the position I hold within the team as of 24th April 2005.
PocketGPSWorld.com was originally my baby which I created, and nurtured into this world, and have brought some extremely knowledgeable people together to help in making it the resource it is today, and I have absolutely no regrets, but now it's time for me to move on. Darren, Mike, Robert and Lutz will continue to move PocketGPSWorld.com forward in the spirit we have over the past 3 years and continue the outstanding work that you have all come to expect from this great website.
I will continue to update my own blog at www.daveburrows.com and I will also still spend time in the forums here when possible and answer your queries, but this will not be as a member of the PocketGPSWorld.com team after the above date.
I'd like to thank everyone that's helped make PocketGPSWorld what it is today, and that includes the current team members Darren, Mike, Robert and Lutz, also previous team members Kevin Tea, Duncan Hill and Peter Bailey, and of course, all of you who read the website!
Thank you all! |

We will all be sad to see you go Dave.
In the years that we have all been together we have had some good times, lots of drink in the Lake District if I remember through the haze.
You will be sorely missed and we wish you good luck in your new post at ALK. _________________ Mike Barrett

If I remember rightly it was normally my credit card that got thrown over the bar to pay for it all....

Dave,
Great news for you and may I offer my congratulations on your success with GPS World. I've been there since the early days - been stuck a number of times and there has always been someone there to assist - often within hours of posting.
Good luck at ALK and we look forward to more exciting developments. And remember - poacher turned gamekeeper (well almost!) these guys won't stand for second best - even from a mate!!!!!
Well done - I know the guys will keep up the tradition!

Wow, it seems like a bit of an "end of an era" to see you move on from a site that you and the team can be rightly proud of.
Good luck with the new job at ALK, we look forward to seeing the results of your input. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Dave,
I am very happy for you - looks like all the hard work has paid off and you're now rewarded with even more hard work. I truly hope your contribution at ALK will help us to bring the recent heated debates to a fruitful conclusion.
Thank you for the guidance you have given us over the years, we will have to stretch quite a bit to keep the quality and momentum of the site.
I can't see the invite to the farewell party in my mail - but then again I'm not exactly interested in the yellow water you guys use for haziness. I'll raise a glass of decent beer in your honor. (honour?) _________________ Lutz

Congratulations Dave.
Your contribution to the knowledge and insight into PDA based GPS navigation has been outstanding in the period from the raw beginnings to the current position as an every day 'essential'.
I am sure that you will make a great contribution to ALK and we will see your influence.

Best of luck in your future role Dave.
I don't know where I personally would been, if not for the help and insight of this site you created.

I have been around since almost the beginning and have witnessed the growth not only of this site but the entire pocket GPS arena. Thanks for all your reviews, comments, help etc over the last 3 years and best of luck in your new role. _________________ Audi S4

Dave,
As Skippy says it must seem like an end of an era for you. Wishing you all the best in your new job and good health to you and your family.
Looking forward to meeting up again at a pub somewhere. Let's make it soon.
Pity we cannot get Lutz over to try some real ale
