On an anotherwise disastrous day when the insured/assured Saturday delivery of a new pc from Mesh didn't happen (even though it was paid extra for), and when I therefore didn't have the right pc for setting up my broadband (which has been ready and waiting for nearly 2 weeks now) ... I come to the forum and get some postive and really welcome news before bed. Delighted I'll be able to get TTN5 on my Mio 168. Now all I've got to do is hope that by the time it's available, I have a pc and connection that can cope with downloading the files I'll need. Thanks for the uplift folks...I needed it. |

OK, I see what the problem was.
When I select UK English on tomtom site then goto compatability list the Mio 168 is there But not for the USA English..hmmm
Tech Support also told me the Mio was Not supported. Does this mean
the UK version is Supported and the US Not?
I see that Ibendlin says you can use the Version 4 maps
what is the difference between the Maps? Do they not have Version 5 maps for the US
I'm now confused are they not the same? |

My assumption is that v5 will not be rolled out over here at the same time as in Europe. So if you own v5 and come to North America you can already use your v5 software with the existing v4 maps (those were released when TomTom Navigator 2004 came out) _________________ Lutz

I emailed tomtom a few weeks ago about mio 168 compatability,
They stated that
"TomTom Navigator 5 is not compatible with the Mio 168. Compatibility with the Mio 168 is limited by its internal hardware configuration that does not function with our application. We do not currently offer a product compatible with your device.
If you have any further questions please let us know.
Regards,
USA Customer Support"
Then a Follow up Answer
"Correct. We do not expect to release a version of our software that will be compatible with the Mio 168. Please let us know if we can further assist you.
Regards,
USA Customer Support"
Why would they support the UK version and Not the US Version
Obviously I missing Something here??? |

There was never much coordination between the headquarters and the US office. This is just one more example.
The software itself is the same, so it will work the same. _________________ Lutz

Well that definately seems to be the case. It clears up a bunch of questions that's for sure.
You would think it wouldn't be that hard.......either way though, I'm happy it is supported.
Thanks Again |

I was looking to see if my new (waiting for it to be delivered) MDA vario is supported.
It is, as is the Mio 168 on the maps of western europe product, but not on the Navigator 5 bluetooth product. Weird. _________________ Skoda Columbus and for emergencies: TomTom + iPhone 4 & TomTom car kit |

I used the Mio168 with TTN5 for 6 months. While it did work, on every occasion I experienced problems with the map display going haywire (jumping all over the place for about 3 seconds), and also positioning me incorrctly on nearby roads.
After taking advise from users on this forum, I am now using a HP2210 with a Bluetooth receiver. I have had no problems whatsoever with this set up, and appears to be a very stable platform.
