Garmin 76 turns off when knocked

Hi,

I find my Garmin 76 shuts down when it is knocked or jolted. It doesn't take too much to cause it to shut down so this is a big problem. I have had the unit for just over a year and the problem has got worse.

A Google search brings up lots of web sites where people report problems with Garmin units shutting down with high levels of vibration, eg when used on the handlebars of a trail bike. This appears to be caused by the batteries moving. However, it takes a gentle knock to shutdown my unit, the sort that occurs through normal use.

In case this is a battery issue, I added "padding" to the battery compartment but it didn't help; I then removed the battery cover and held the batteries tightly in place by hand and knocked the unit - it shutdown; I then moved the batteries side to side, etc, to see if moving them in their slots would cause the GPS to shutdown, but it didn't; finally, I have noticed the unit only shuts down from knocks when in normal mode, but is fine when in simulator mode.

Can anyone help?

I'd suggest this would be best resolved by a call to Garmin.
