Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I have tried searching through the forums without much success.

I have an Ipaq hx2110 with Tomtom navigator 3.07 installed (not the package from Tomtom but bought separately) and a wired Tomtom reciever. The reciever is mounted in the corner of my windscreen next to my origin B2 antena which works fine.

The problem I have is that I can't get the GPS to get a satellite lock for more than a few seconds. The bars in the GPS module of Tomtom fluctuate between 0 and 6 satellites (grey) and occasionally will lock (red) for about 5 seconds before starting again. I have tried mounting the reciever externally to see if this was a problem inside the car but it made no difference. I have also tried connecting the GPS equipment up in the house with the reciever outside of the window and leaving it overnight but it still fails to lock.

I am begining to think it is the reciever that is faulty as I tried doing a hard reset of the PDA and reinstalling Tomtom but that did not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Neil

What happens if you place the GPS receiver outside temporarily? And what car do you have? Citroen or Peugeot by any chance?

Darren,

It's a VW Golf MK4, I've got no problems with my Origin B2 getting a satellite lock with the antenna mounted on the dash so I don't think it's the screen.

At present I have the Tomtom equipment set up on my desk with the receiver outside of the window, with "Tomtom navigator GPS" as the GPS type and "serial cable on com1" as the connection. It is currently seeing 9 satellites 6 of which are at 90%, 1 at 75% and the other two at 25% the bars are grey though, and the receiver will not lock on to the satellites.

Hope this info helps.

Ok so it's not a coated screen that's the problem here then! Can you tell me what receiver it is? It may be worth having a lok at it using Winfast Navigator, has this receiver ever worked?

I ask because some NMEA sentences can be switched off and this causes issues with TomTom, if you see this post which refers to using the GPS receiver supplied with Medion PDA's and scroll down to my response you'll see what needs to be checked using Winfast available in our downloads section.

Darren,

It's the Tomtom wired receiver which arrived a couple of days ago and I haven't managed to get it working at all yet.

Darren,

I've followed the instructions from the other post and the settings were already the same as you said.

One thing happened when I selected port settings though, an error message appeared saying "Couldn't find value" after clicking "OK " three times I got the screen for setting the protocol, port and baud rate.

Thanks
Neil

I also have a MK4 golf and the tomtom wired GPS which has worked perfectely in the past in the car using the tomtom driver and serial cable on com 1.
This has changed today though, it now gets a fix for a second then looses it and repeated this over and over again. The same as you discribe?

reply101,

I have since found out that it is the Tomtom receiver that is at fault, I have obtained a replacement and the GPS works perfectly now.

I hope this helps you with your problem
