I've had a RBT-3000 for probably a year and think the data logging feature is very cool. I usually leave the GPS in one of my cars for weeks at a time and then pull the data off it whenever I remember to. One obvious thing I did wanted to do was be able to view the log data over top of an actual map.

The best software I've found for dealing with what I'll call trips (others call them tracks or traces or occasionally routes) is http://www.expertgps.com/ - free trial and US$60 to buy. To me it's like Microsoft Excel but for GPS data! ExpertGPS supports a format called GPX for import/export (I think they're the ones that came up with it?). A fair (FREE) online tool that also supports GPX is http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/

Accordingly I wrote a Perl script to convert NMEA logs to text files (CSV, tab-separated) or into GPX files as trips. You can find it at http://marty.feebleandfrail.org/gps/nmeaconvert/. It requires Perl, of course.

I know there's lots of UK/Europe users on here - can anyone recommend a program with maps that supports GPX?

Please report success/failure/feature requests or any other experiences with my nmeaconvert tool either to this thread or via PM. If there's enough interest in it I would do up a GUI version.

Have you seen the LogConverter tool that our moderator 'oldie' has crafted? He will also be able to advise on visualisation tools.

Don't remember - does MapPoint support GPX?
