Hello again,
With the problems I have been having with the 303MMF, I am trying to discover if there is some kind of inherent fault with it. I am right in thinking that it should work in sirf mode aren't I? Using Winfast Navigator, under port settings, if I switch to sirf mode (at any baud rate), I get nothing coming thru on the development screen...
On another note re keeping the unit powered up - is there any definitive word on whether its getting power when in the ipaq but WITHOUT Navigator running (iPaq on AC power and on)? The led shows no activity when doing this. I have seen mention of it in other threads but no real conclusion.
Cheers,
w. |

You won't see anything in the Development screen in SiRF binary mode - because it's a binary protocol, not textual. If you have valid information in the other screens, it's working in SiRF binary mode.
I can't remember whether or not the GPS chipset is on when the serial port isn't opened. I have a feeling it's not, but I can't remember for sure.

Thanks for the info David.
When I have it in nmea 4800 in Winfast, it connects immediately and says so on the bottom left. When I try it in Sirf this doesn't happen... its just trying to connect but without success.
Are you saying I can't switch between nmea and sirf without a connection to my laptop?

You need to use the Command option in Winfast Navigator to send a 'change mode' command to the GPS. That also reconfigures Winfast Navigator accordingly.
This works fine with my HI-303MMF, but some people find that Winfast Navigator doesn't switch mode reliably with their HI-303MMF.

Indeed. Doesn't seem to work with mine...
Thanks again David. |
