Why is Fortuna/Fugawi so slow

Having had my Fortuna Clip-On replaced last week as the Bluetooth function had stopped working all together I was looking forward to using the new device on an off-roading trip over the weekend.

I was using an IPAQ 4450 with a Fugawi map to cover the relevant area downloaded from my laptop.

Hooking up to the Clip-On using the Bluetooth link was faultless, however, the lag between actual position and the on screen cursor was significant and it would sometimes take up to 5 minutes for the cursor to catch up.

I have been trialling Mapopolis and have been very impressed by the response rate (when you are 10m from a Junction it says you are 10m from the junction - Real Time!). This persuades me that there are no problems with the basic hardware setup but more to do with the GPS link within Fugawi.

The Clip-On was set to ST which I believe should be the fastest setting. Given that travel speeds were rarely greater than 20 mph the performance was not very helpful in the circumstances.

I don't remember having any real problems with lag with the previous Clip-On (when it worked).

Anyone got any ideas why it's going so slow and more importantly what I can do to fix it?
