02 XDA11S & TomTom Wired GPS Receiver.

Today I purchased a new O2 XDA11s.

Upon installing TomTom3 and connecting my wired GPS receiver, I could not get the receiver to talk to my PDA, I just got the error: "Com Port 1 cannot be open; Port does not exist"

I searched the internet for a while but could not identify the problem; I then e-mailed TomTom support and received the following reply:

'The reason for Com 1 being blocked is that Com1 is being used by the Infra Red driver, we suggest the following application: Tap Start>settings>connections>Beam / and uncheck 'receive all incoming beams'

I have carried out the instruction and now my navigator works fine.

I thought other XDA owners mind find this information useful.

XDAIIs is the third generation XDA.

The problem began with the origonal XDA 2 years ago.
If one did a search on this site or the internet one should find numerous posts about this and the solution.
