|

Had iPAQ replaced, has latest firmware & drivers.
new install of TT3 ... 3.03
3.07 GPS Driver
Sequence -
turn on Fortuna
turn on Bluetooth
make a connection via tap&hold on shortcut to ClipOn-BT GPS: SPP slave
Close Bluetooth Manager
GPS up and running
Start TT3 and all works OK, routes plan & tracks OK
After an indeterminate time ... ( 5 mins or 50 mins) there is a beep followed by Bluetooth Browser window pops up and there is no 'double ended arrow' signifying Bluetooth connection lost.
If I single tap on ClipOn-BT GPS shortcut, it restablishes a connection and TT3 continues on with route happily ... until the next loss of conection.
Under TT GPS it shows connection is to TomTom Wireless GPS
(There is no option for Fortuna in drop down list)
I have installed & applied "BlueTooth tweak", but this made no difference.
Any ideas ?
TT3 GPS ver is 3.07 417/421
TT3 ver is 3.03
Inbound port is COM 5
Outbound is COM 8
iPAQ Bluetooth is Blueetooth CE ver 1.4.1 |

Jacklad,
I have IPAQ 1940 & Fortuna clipon BlueTooth
I have mine set to NMEA 0183v2 38400 & BlueTooth Serial Port COM8
I am using tt3.03 & an older version of TTGPS v2.06 284/364, as recommended by this forum - does not "tie" BlueTooth stack exclusively to TomTom & has a smaller footprint in main memory.
Don't have any dropout problems at all.

Put in all driver details, s/w deatils ... and forgot the basic ... it's a 2210.
I don't mind hard restting and starting agin if necessary, but done this a few times now, and still unstable. |

A 2210? So I can assume you have maps stored on SD? If so then this is a known issue with that unit. The problems occur when you use SD for maps and BT for GPS. The solution is simple, use a CF card for maps storage and the dropouts will cease.
FWIW I use a 2210, BT GPS and maps on CF, 100% stable, switch maps to SD and frequent hangs and BT drop outs occur. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I bought the same set up as a number of guys in the ofice .. they all use SD cards, 2210 and TT3 with no problem.
How does the storage media affect BT signal ? it doesn't make sense ?
Having bought this new SD just for this job, is there no other fix ? |

Accessing SD stresses the processor which in certain combinations presents itself as BT dropouts or application freezes, a CF card has its own on-board controller hence less processor utilisation and no lock-ups. As you say, some have no problems but many do. The specific make of SD card can influence the degree of problems.
For the sake of £20 for an SD card is it really worth the hassle of dropouts and random hangs? The other options are to get an SD card of the same make as someone who has no issues or change to a wired or CF GPS. You can still retain the SD card for other files, mp3's etc, the issue only affects navigation and BT GPS.
If you search for 2210 and BT problems you will see that this is a VERY well known issue. _________________ Darren Griffin |
