Hi Folks... I just got my TTG last week and quickly found out that I needed to get the external ariel in order to get a signal (I have a Citroen C5). The genuine TomTom ariel comes with another base mount with the ariel lead fitted into it and it works absolutely brilliant, even with it just laid inside the car.

I have just found a problem tonight though. as I needed to use the car charging lead to power the TTG. I proceeded to connect the original in-car lead to the mount and find that in order to fit the plug into the socket in the new ariel base, I had to remove the base from the rest of the window mount in order to have room to fit the plug. I did this OK but then find that the mount fixing screw won't tighten it all back up together because of it fouling the plug. I realise that I can simply plug it into the back of the TTG but surely all these genuine TomTom bits should connect together and still allow it to be assembled correctly.

Having paid £50 for a genuine TT ariel, I would have expected this new base to allow the proper car lead to be used at the same time otherwise what's the point of supplying a power connection socket on the new mount if it can't be used.

Perhaps I am missing something but I wouldn't have thought this to have been 'overlooked' and I wondered if anyone else has come across this. It looks like I will have to make up a new lead so that I can use all the its together. I will have a look to-morrow in the daylight just in case I have fitted this new mount upside down.

By the way.... it's a superb forum !! and it has been of great help to me.

Hi... Having moved the location of the mount in my car. I had turned the windscreen mount upside down without realising it.

Easy cure (in the daylight) just removed the base that came with the ariel and fitted it the other way up, so that the tightening screw is now on the top wheras I had this screw at the bottom, thus obstructing the plug's socket.

Up until this point I hadn't noticed anything wrong till the battery ran down last night and I tried to use the in-car lead. All is well now and the ariel is superb. :D
