One last try...

before I kick my TomTom software including BT receiver in the bin.

I've got an Ipaq 1940 with TomTom 3.07 and a TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver using the 2.07 driver software. As the Ipaq does not have a serial port I do have to use BT to connect. Using the 2.07 driver was one of the reccomendations of very helpful people here in this forum after I've posted problems here before.

The current issue I've got lies within TomTom connecting to my GPS receiver randomly. It works on some days - on others I've got to fiddle with it for 10 min. before I finally get it to work. Both bluetooth lights (Ipaq and receiver) come on but the receiver one keeps flashing and I cannot connect. I try various things that do seem to work/not work in a similar random fashion as establishing the connection:
- soft reset PC
- "untick" and "tick" the GPS port within the GPS driver again
- power everything on and off again
- only restart TomTom
- wait a couple of sec. before starting TomTom after receiver powered up

I really do not know what's wrong especially it sometimes does work straight away. I wish I could change to a hardwired solution but unfortunately my Ipaq does not allow me to do this. Not sure if a different GPS receiver would help. If I change the receiver would I also need to use a different GPS driver or do I still have to use the TomTom one? I might consider switching to Copilot completely and stick to the hardware...

Sorry for the lenghty post but any ideas/comments would be very much apprechiated.

Thanks for reading,
Manuel

Thanks for your feedback - those are exactly the settings I've got (except me using the GPS driver 2.07 not 3...) and with the same settings it sometimes works or does not work - it's completely random and driving me nuts. To get it working if it plays up I do not change any driver settings. I usually play around with what I've mentioned above...

Yes I have the latest ROM installed:
- ROM revision 1.10.20 ENG
- Bluetooth radio type: 1
- Radio revision: 141

Anybody else any ideas? What about if I use a different GPS receiver? Would I then have to use a different GPS driver or do I still have to use the TomTom one?

You'll still have to use TomTom GPS, even with different GPS hardware.

Firstly, make sure that there's no Bluetooth patches for the 1940 on the HP web site - I've got a feeling that there's one to add combination key support (needed for some newer Nokia mobile phones), which may just help, though I can't see it making a difference.

If that doesn't make things reliable, you could try updating to the latest software versions - which is Navigator 3.07 and GPS 3.07 - just to see if things are any better then. If things don't work then, you've got various options. One, though it's never nice, is to hard reset the iPAQ to set it up again from scratch - that may just cure a strange glitch.

If it comes down to a possible hardware issue, if possible try the iPAQ with other Bluetooth devices, such as a mobile phone. If the iPAQ works with everything other than the GPS, then I'd contact TomTom about returning the GPS under warranty (if there is any warranty). If you don't have any other Bluetooth devices, it's rather harder to diagnose the problem.
