On the option where you have the choice of...
Fastest Route
Shortest Route
Avoid Motorways
Walking Route
Bicycle Route
Limited Speed
Are you only allowed to select one of the options or can you select Shortest Route AND Avoid Motorways?
Thanks in advance and thanks for all the updates on this site.

I knew I'd forget to ask something, on the new version of Go can you disbale to auto zoom and can you adjust the speed settings for each type of road?
Thanks in advance. |

I've done it again, I forgot another question.
Will you be able to change, delete or rename the pre installed POI's whether it be by a whole group or just individual ones? |

On your latter question, I can't think that the old policy of not being allowed to manipulate the built in POIs will change. This question has been asked in various guises, with respect to both built in POIs and map data.
The policy of the mapping companies appears to be that they do not permit manipulation of their data by their customers' end users. It has been suggested that at least part of this is to do with the copyright issues of 'derivative works', which are actually rather complicated. My lay understanding is that you need explicit permission of the copyright holder to create a derivative work.
I think you can take it as pretty certain that you will have the option of using the built in POIs "as is", including alongside your own POIs. If you really can't get on with the built in POIs, your only option is to switch them off - not forgetting, though, that you can try to make the POIs better by reporting errors.
TeleAtlas have recently announced a tie-up with a specialist POI company - whether the fruits of that will make it into any new maps issued (presumably as a chargeable upgrade) alongside version 5 software, or in an upgrade further into the future, remains to be seen.

Does anyone know if all these new GO V5 firmware features are for UK-Europe only, or will they also be available for USA users. Obviously things like postcodes have a different format in the USA, and with my current GO PLUS I can enter the US 5 digit Zip Code (Postcode) when selecting the city.
Would also be interesting to know if map updates will be available for the US region as well. |

That really is a shame they could not have fixed the zoom, to me it’s a problem when im going down a road with lots of other streets around be I can’t see the names of the roads. So I zoom out then I can see them all fine, but then with in about 30 sec it zooms back in automatically and after that I can’t see them again. |

Thanks for the reply about the postcodes. How about the other V5 features (planning, toll roads, etc.) described in your review? Do you expect these to work with USA GO units? Is there any info on map updates for the US?
Thanks again. |

Will this update be able to be downloaded from their web site or will we need to order it on CD? I saw you say in the review about it will need to be provided on a CD. But are you talking about the Map or the software? im more interested in the software update for now. |

I understand that with GO 700, we can connect our mobile phone through bluetooth and use its GPRS for traffic updates. Very helpful indeed, for people who live and work in the City of London (like me).
Talking about traffic updates, what I don't understand is that for example, if I need to go from point A to B, with the traffic update feature enabled, will GO 700 calculate the best possible route considering all the traffic congestion and jams or is the traffic update feature just an information feature for the user, to find out wherever there are traffic jams
It will be good to know this as if the route is calculated by keeping the traffic updates in mind, then this is definitely a big positive! |

Unsure, everyone will be notified closer to the time. Certainly 4.x releases will appear to have a free download, I don't know what this will entail for TTN2/3. This is software only! |

To Mike Barrett Contributing Editor, PocketGPSWorld.com
I would appreciate it if when you have a meeting with the directors if you would ask them if people from Scotland will be getting a free upgrade as the lots & lots of Street names are wrong.
I don't mind paying for an upgrade if it is new roads that just being put in but when there are soooooooooo many mistakes that Tomtom Go has even made the papers here about how bad the maps are that the upgrade should be free.

Mike/Dave, You say in your review "Currently TomTom GO 5 will only support postcodes in these countries [ie UK and Netherlands] and cannot support full postcodes in other countries like Germany, Spain, Italy etc"
Just one clarification for anyone who is interested...in actual fact GO already DOES support full postcode search in these countries, or at least certainly in Germany where I live. This has been true since Day One of the GO.
It`s just that German postcodes (PLZ) are only 5 numeric digits and often cover whole towns, so are not anywhere near as useful for navigating to as the UK postcodes, which tend to cover just a few houses.
They ARE handy if you find two towns with the same name though...and are certainly quicker than typing in some long German town name if you know the PLZ... |

Sniff, we're unaware of that. TomTom have been stating that UK and Netherlands only support full postcodes so that's the information we've based the reviews on.
I'll check with TomTom to see which other countries should cover full digit postcodes. Are you sure Germany covers not only the full digit codes but full country-wide coverage ? |

Dave, not exactly sure what you mean by that! For sure, my GO here (with German maps) covers all the country with the 5 digit PLZ codes. That's as full as postcodes get here! |
