I think at the very least people who brought there Go with in the last 12 months should have this update for free. If they end up charging for this update it’s just complete greediness on Tom-Tom part to make more money. |

David you say:
Quote: | TomTom surprised me with their offer of a free 'software only' upgrade to Navigator 5 for Pocket PC and Palm OS users - they've not done anything like that before. Let's hope their generosity extends to Go users...... |
If a person has a PocketPC or an XDA/MDA/PDA etc etc, he only ends up spending around £200 on: £90 Nav 3 software, a £90 GPS receiver and a £20 car stand/holder.
Whereas a TOMTOM GO user ends up spending £400!!!!!!
And then the upgrade is free for PocketPC and Palm OS users? Huh? Does that make sense? Do you know where I am coming from? Well, you would if it was your 2nd day with your brand new TOMTOM GO and then you get to hear about this new Hardware and Software upgrade announcement!
Can someone from TomTom please read this forum? |

Can I suggest everyone cools down over the issue of upgrade pricing. What people are after is hard information and we're trying to bring that to you.
I would suggest that today is not the time for people to make suggestions about possible pricing, portray themselves as aggrieved owners, and expressing their opinions on what TomTom should and shouldn't do.
It now appears that TomTom have conceded one of their original Press Releases was incorrect. The thread discussing upgrade pricing in the light of that is here. The Team are working for further clarification.
As the CeBIT team have posted, the software only upgrade for Go to Go 5 is apparently going to be free. I haven't heard anything yet about map upgrades.

All (especially David),
Apologies for losing it a bit earlier.
Its just that it didn't make much sense that Nav 3 and 2 users, who spend less to get their TomTom solution get a free upgrade and TomTom GO users, who end up paying nearly twice as them have to pay for the same upgrade.
Anyway, its all clear now. No offence to Nav 3 or 2 users, in my opinion, the firmware upgrade should be free for all TomTom users. :D
May be a bit too much to ask for? |

I feel if we have spent £450 on these units we have the rights to express our opinions on it. |

Of course you do - all I was trying to say is that, particularly whilst information is still unclear, it's probably more helpful to stick to the facts.
Once the upgrade deals including pricing are announced, I shall be watching the debate with interest.

But surely David one of the most important "facts" must be the cost or otherwise? Why take so much effort in releasing such an in depth presentation on the new features then leave out a fundamental point e.g. will it cost us? Doesnt make sense. I entirely agree with Jo - we paid top dollar for this kit and are entitled to ask this very basic question! _________________ Life's a bitch... then I met Jane... |

All version 4.x customers (GO, Palm, Mobile) will receive an upgrade to version 5 as a free download.
All Navigator 2 and 3 customers will have to pay 49 euro's to upgrade to the version 5 software which will include an upgrade to European Maps. _________________ Ian.

I've had a look but can't see it.
On the option where you have the choice of...
Fastest Route
Shortest Route
Avoid Motorways
Walking Route
Bicycle Route
Limited Speed
Are you only allowed to select one of the options or can you select Shortest Route AND Avoid Motorways?
Thanks in advance and thanks for all the updates on this site.

I've seen somewhere you get the option for a ABCDE keyboard, a QWERTY keyboard and a AZERTY keyboard.
What's an AZERTY keyboard? |

AZERTY is the French layout - similar, but not identical, to QWERTY.
