Hi

Recently purchased a Purplegrid K2 GPS receiver to go with TomTom Nav 3 GB. Have managed to connect the device using bluetooth manager but so far have failed to get and sat connection. I have tried various settings in the GPS options but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone used this type of GPS receiver or can anyone offer any advise on how to get this thing working?

Many thanks in advance.

Matt

the settings I have for this gps are as follows

NMEA 0183v2 9600
Bluetooth serial port com 8

I'm using it with a 2210 ipaq - com 8 may change on your model - try both bluetooth ones.

I had a severe problem when I first got this unit - ( mine has a different name - Wond ex BT77 but exactly the same) in that the unit would disconnect my bt connection every few minutes - then be ok for a hour then disconnect.

I fully charged the unit then took the battery out for 12 hours, then reconnected and haven't had a problem since - I'm using an external antenna (unit is hidden in boot) and am constantly seeing 10 sats (forget the 16 claim - won't happen), but even without the antenna it picks up 4 sats inside my house and 10 outside.

Don't bother with bt manager just select the gps when you fire up tomtom (- or use the reg hack to connect automatically - search handango for BtRegTweak).

One thing I did notice was initially it was hard to get a connection until the unit had a clear view of the sky and picked some sats - almost as though it doesn't transmit if it picks up no sats (this may have been due to problems solved when I removed all powerr from the unit).

I would charge it, take the battery out overnight, then take it outside and turn it on, wait for 20 minutes then try to connect using the above settings and hopefully you should be ok.

If you search in google for Itrek BT gps you will find more info on this unit - there is a long forum post over at gpspassion (24+ pages) devoted to these units - very helpful.

HTH

Ian

apologies for long post

Hi Ian

Many thanks for the reply, I have tried all the things you suggested as guess what, nothing, Nada, Zip I have tried the received with 3 different PDA's all XDA's but different models, some of which have different com ports available than others. The thing is I am connecting by Bluetooth and the blue LED is flashing every second as it is supposed to when I have selected either Bluetooth on Com5 or Com6. Apparently once the connection has been made the TomTom GPS (ver 3.07) will try to grab the data from the receiver, the Sat to Pad buttons should move from left to right, tho I don’t see anything, I can leave the devices connected for as long as I want and yet still nothing. I am a loss and very frustrated. £90.00 down the drain as the supplier easydevices.co.uk say it is working perfect and will charge me if I return the device.

So a word of warning if you are thing of opting for this receiver think again you will end up with nothing but wasted time and a piece of hardware that is fit for the bin.

Matt

OK, well I have an XDAII here and a PurpleGrid BT GPS, both are paired and working perfectly. I used COM5 and 9600 as the Baud Rate.

In TomTom's GPS applet, on the status tab, do the dots move between the GPS and PDA icopns which indicates connectivity?

Are you using the latest ROM version for the XDAII? That is v.172. That fixes a lot of BT issues on the XDAII.

See O2's XDAII Microsite.

What version of TomTom's GPS Driver are you using? v3.07 is the latest and fixes some issues with BT GPS.

I am getting the same problems with an orange m1000 (rom1.66) using tomtom nav 2.
Cannot connect using the BT drivers or selecting a com port, driving me mad this is now. Over on the xda dev forum they have suggested using a different BT stack but that wouldnt install for me. Anyone know if there is a rom update for the m1000?
