Need Help With GM-210

I just bought a new GM-210. It has a USB connector and no other connectors. I'm using WinXP Pro. When I plug in the GPS, I can see it's on COM4. It's tracked satellites once. When I try it again now several days later, it will only show the coordinates from that 1 session. I've tried the GPS Viewer from the Holux website. I've also tried DeLorme Street Atlas 2004+ and Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004. DeLorme can't find it and Microsoft just sits at "initializing..."

I've downloaded the SIRF demo but don't know what to do with it.

In the device manager, the GPS by default is set to 9600, 8, N, 1. These settings don't work in the individual applications listed above. How can I determine what the output is for the GPS? Am I an idiot or am I doing something wrong?
