I have a compact flash GPS receiver that works off of COM5 on my PPC using Destinator 3. I use this in my car of course and when I leave my car, the PPC will turn off after so many minutes. Okay, now, when I get back in my car, I press the power button on my PPC and here's the problem. Destinator 3 no longer see's my GPS receiver. Most of the time I can to GPS Status, and then press "Set GPS" and then it will find it again. Sometimes it freezes doing this and I have to soft reset my PPC. Is there ANYWAY to get Destinator to re-recognize my GPS when I turn it back on. TomTom did this quite nicely, but I can't get Destinator to do it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

~Micah

Destinator doesn't seem to like the PPC switching off without first having exited the program. It's a minor PIA, but you need to exit Destinator before powering down. Unless someone knows something I don't ... ?

Whenever I have disconnected my GPS before turning off, Destinator will never close like it is supposed to. It always freezes, so then I have to give it a soft reset of PPC itself. Any ways to fix this? I ask this because I have an in-car setup connects to a serial cable via the ciggarette lighter. So when I turn my car off, it turns the GPS off, thus the PPC no longer see's the GPS
Thanks again,
~Micah

I think its best to close destinator and PPC and also switch up and on before GPS is connected.

If you don't it seems to drain battery

I have also experienced the loss of GPS, when leaving to hibernate, if you use GPS status and find GPS it does come back.

See my message re 2210 issue which I think is the same

My set-up is very similar to Mhastings but fortunately, my cigarette lighter socket doesn't switch off with the ignition. Perhaps you could rig up an always-on power socket for your PDA? That would allow you to keep the PDA powered up if you are stopping temporarily and also to turn Destinator off without having to remember to do so before switching the engine off.

I had the same problem - ever since I upgraded to an iPAQ 5450, both with D2 and D3 with a wired Garmin GPS and now a bluetooth unit.

It's very annoying as I used to be able to turn off either the GPS or the iPAQ and then simply turn it on nearer the destination. The most iratating aspect is stopping for petrol as you have to leave the thing powered up.
