I am not surprised windows can't open the data.chk file as its only intended for the PDA/ PNA devices, go back to the instructions and look at what you need to do with the file once you have it downloaded,

re-name the existing file and replace it with the new one on the sat nav unit, the data.chk file is specific to the tomtom unit and only this will recognise the file and know what to do with it

It is possible to open the file within windows for editing purposes, using specific software packages, but this is not what you need to do, follow the guide and you should be OK, if not please re-post here and we will get back to you - Mike

I have been using the voice alerts and found them very helpful. However, I use multiple maps and speed camera databases from Europe. These are (unfortunately) calibrated in Km.

Is it possible to have different data.chk files for different maps? Has anyone done this successfully.

A voice file for the Km speeds would be great.

Thanks

You could have more than one data.chk on your device but only use one at a time, you would need to use a pc to rename the file each time you wanted to use it.
Better to extend the warnings to 30 and have two sets and just setup each set for the required map.
Checkout http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/poiw.html for more details.

Thanks Ray - I'll try that.

Any ideas where I can get additional OGG files?

Best regards

I have found a complete set of Kilometer warnings at http://members.home.nl/jjkosters/VoicesTT5/TomTom/Voices/ which meets my requirements.

The only issue some may have is that the voices are in Dutch.

Regards

Hi I downloaded the file and yes all the sounds have been replaced. How do I set the poi alerts to select the correct sound for the correct camera and speed or is this now automatic. I have the Jan06 database download.
When I go into manage poi it only allows setting of one sound. Or am I being daft!!
Regards,

Steve

The first question you are asked is 'Select POI'. This is the one you will be giving a Warning Sound to.

When in the Warn When Near Menus, the screen that shows the warning sound has an Arrow to the Left, and the Right. This allows you to scroll, and set, an individual sound to each POI.

Press Test to hear what it is.

The idea of the replacement warning voices is great - HOWEVER

Unfortunately, space IS limited. I cannot see the point in including the CREDITS, since no-one is EVER going to use them as a warning. It totally wastes a valuable resource.

Since there are no plain "non-camera related" warning sounds, I will be reverting to the original file.

There are Extended Warnings that can use more than 15 warnings. Have a look at http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/

I really want these voice files over my "TomTom Specials" but I'm hesitating!!

I have quite a few extra POI's I have put on my TomTom and I use different sounds for them. EG Cow sound for Mc Donalds, Bugle for Petrol Stations etc....

I'm concerned that if I put the Safety Camera voices on in place of the 15 pre loaded that I'll have nothing for my other POI's.

So firstly, is 15 sounds the maximum I can have
and secondly, id 15 is the limit, is there a way I could say only use some of the Safety ones with some of the pre loaded ones?

The other thing I'd like to ask, although i think I know the answer and just want it clarified......if I did download all 15 safety camera ones, do I need to sit and point each camera type to the respective sound, or is it done automatically?

Many thanks
