leadtek 9532 and toshiba e335 pda help needed

i have a tosh e335 with ttn3 v3.03 with gps driver 2.07 connected to a leadtek 9532.
they dont like talking to each other but will on the very rare occasions.
on the gps driver i've set it up to com port 1; and ttn gps or nmea 4800.
the ir port is off and i've also turned off active sync.

tryed using wifast to diag but this too works when it chooses to; with com1
nmea 4800 - usually i get the message 'couldn't open the usbser com1:port!'

the 9532 works okay with the same set up on my ipaq3950.

can anyone offer any help or driver advice.
