I'm new to Mapopolis. The maps appear free to download. Why buy the maps? |

The free maps are only working for nine days. And you can only download limited numbers of maps per session, And you cannot download the major Roads maps (unless you watch the URL carefully) . And you cannot download the ZIP files containing entire states
Why buy Mapopolis? Because it's a cool program for nerds. And because it is by far the fastest program on the market _________________ Lutz

Is the 9 day expiration measured from the time I download it to my PC, or from the time I install using Activesync into my PPC? |

Neither. It's from the time you first use the map. _________________ Lutz

Is there any reason I can't keep re-downloading the map after I have used it for 9 days? |

no - feel free to re-download. The maps will just stop working after nine days. And if you re-download after that then, well, they will still keep not working. _________________ Lutz

your reply was a bit cryptic -
Each time I download, will I get another nine days, or is mapopolis smart enough to know I have already used map XYZ for nine days, and not let me start the clock again. |

I was trying to be polite. Let me be blunt.
As I said, demo maps will stop working after nine days, no matter what you do as an average Pocket PC user.
We will not support any requests to cheat on Mapopolis. It's a good program, and pretty cheap. _________________ Lutz

Best I can gather, the "platinum" maps that you buy, typically 9.95 per county, and don't expire(?), don't support GPS driving instructions, so they aren't as good as the free maps.
Also, as far as "cheating" huh? I haven't seen anything on the mapopolis webpage / licensing agreement that limits demos to one per customer. Can you provide the link that states this? |

You need to buy the navigator maps. not the platinum maps.
Iwas referring to cheating as the attempt to extend the demo period. _________________ Lutz

Suggestion For Tourists?
I've used the 9 day trial on an iPaq while on holiday in the USA before, and will probably do the same again on a Smartphone - but I can't really justify buying Maps of the entire USA for the occasional trip.
If Mapopolis offered, for example, a map collection of a single state, valid for 30 days, for $30 or somwhere in that ballpark, I'd happily pay for it rather than using the trial. |

Except for the fact that you'll have them when you need them. I purchased a state map pack for Memory Map, but I only use a small portion of them, and only occasionally. In the long run it will prove a good investment, and supporting the company can help fund an improved product down the line. |
