Just had an auto email from Garmin advising me that my Mapsource has been updated, and in the revision data I notice that the GPS component of Mapsource is no longer supported as "nRoute" now covers that part of things.
I can't find an awful lot about nRoute - other than a download page on the Garmin site. Has anyone reviewed it, and is it free?
Thanks,
Dave |

Which Garmin unit do you have?
It is more value for Laptops than most other Units.[not to be confused with MapSource 6.5] |

On my laptop, I have Mapsource, with MetroGuide Europe maps, which I use with an Etrex Vista. I mainly just use Mapsource to save waypoints / upload maps and routes to and from the Etrex etc, and although I've seen the function where the Etrex would provide a signal turning Mapsource into a moving map, I've never used it. I was just curious as to how nRoute fits into things - does it run within Mapsource or does it run seperately, using Metroguide (or other Garmin) maps? The email from Garmin suggests the moving map / compass aspect of Mapsource is not present in the latest upgrade and that nRoute fulfills that function. |

From Mapsource 6.5 instructions:-
Changes made from version 6.3 to 6.5:
Updated the default document format to the new GDB version 2 format.
Due to the availability of the Garmin nRoute application, no changes were made to the MapSource GPS tracking functionality. |

Ah, thanks for the link, I might give it a try now. Seems it is a stand alone program very similar to MapSource, with a few extra features, and it will still use my Metrogude maps. I'll have a play :D |
