Hi Guys,
First post hope someone can help out.
I have an ipaq 3870, tomtom 3.07 and and a leadtek GPS receiver (can't remember exact model)
Software installed fine, map is installed on SD card. Tried to use it on the way home tonight and it seemed slow. I'd be driving along and the alerts seemed to come too slow. ie it would say turn off in 300 yards when I'm right on top of the junction and then tell me to go round the corner when I've already gone round it.
It's almost as if the program can't keep up with my actual progress.
I'm guessing that it could possibly be because the SD card access is slower than built in memory access. Thing is the ipaq only has 64 MB of memory so the GB map won't fit.
Please help, I don't want the missus to think I've wasted my money!
Cheers!

The type and speed of the SD card does make a big difference. I have 2 x 256 SD cards and one is two or three times faster than the other in calculating routes and fiding locations etc.

Also make sure you haven't set your receiver to SiRF protocol or XTrac mode. _________________ Lutz

Ah that could be one thing.
Wen selecting which GPS receiver on Tomtom, Leadtek isn't listed, and I only got it working using the SiRF driver. What should I be using instead?

Standard NMEA 4800. (for wired) or 38400 (for BT)
You may have to reprogram the receiver though to swith it back to NMEA protocol. _________________ Lutz

The 3800 series iPAQs have a very slow SD port.
So long as you don't have a badly misbehaving SD card (there are some around that don't work at all well), there's probably little you can do - though a CompactFlash expansion pack and CompactFlash memory card is likely to be a lot quicker on the 3800 series.

It was the GPS driver. With a little trial and error it's working perfectly with the TomTom Wired driver.
I must say I love this program! I just want to drive places so I can use TomTom!
Thanks for all your help.
