Hi all
Now don't get me wrong I really LOVE TT3, most of the time. I do feel though that somewhere along the line that Tom Tom are missing a trick here.

I use TT3 to navigate around the UK and Europe. I frequently come across sections of road that are totally missing (M6 Toll is a good example), which is acceptable for new roads, or on an old bit of road which is wildly inaccurate or totally missing (A30 between Stockbridge and Lopcombe Corner). In the case of the A30 this verges on the 'not of merchantable quality' or 'not fit for purpose' as it adds two junctions and a massive hairpin which simply do not exist.

I for one would not object to paying a nominal subscription (say £20 per annum) for updated maps. A marketing opportunity missed I think.

I certainly don't plan to nor will I upgrade to a new product within 6 months of having bought any product.

What do others think?

Best regards

TomTom normally do free, or at least discounted upgrades to those who have bought in the few months prior to the release of a new version.

Also remember that TomTom do not make the map data themselves - they buy it from a 3rd Party so it's not quite right to blame TomTom only.

You're missing the points made.

1. I would not object to paying for updates as long as they were accurate.

2. I will not 'upgrade' simply to get something which may still be broken.

3. I am not blaming TT (although having read more posts on the map data subjects it appears as though Tele Atlas do have it right but TT are getting it wrong).

Thanks for the comments though.

Regards

The maps in TomTom Navigator 3 are getting rather dated now - they're December 2003 TeleAtlas data.

So far, TomTom have provided annual map updates together with a new version of the program. The upgrade from Navigator 2 to Navigator 3 cost about £40, or about £8 for those who'd activated their copy of Navigator 3 shortly before the upgrade was announced. Historically the upgrades have been announced in March/April.

TomTom may or may not change their upgrade model in the future; at the moment, all we can do is say what happened in the past.

There can never be a guarantee that an update will fix a specific problem, but upgrading will fix various problems with the mapping data. If a specific problem isn't fixed, all you can do is report the error again.
