|
|
i've been looking at the bluelogger for a while now and am getting ready to make a purchase. i'm not very interestred in included software navigation packages and will probably use tomtom software or some other brand (maybe ocn4). i am interested in the tracking functions though and have thought about purchasing the topo 5 software. are some of the software pieces required to do what i want. it seems like the packages include at least the hh software and other pieces as options. i guess my question is, 'if i use tomtom for navigation (or ocn4) and topo5 for off road, do i need the hh software to work with my track logs and get topo 5 to work on my pda? do i need the pc version at all? ( i read some people bought 1 version (hh) and found they needed both(hh+pc)). i'm having a bit of brain overload trying to sort out all the options. thanks in advance. |

Assuming you talk about DeLorme software...
The Blue Logger logging function is completely independent of either PC or Pocket PC navigation software.
If you want to use DeLorme topo software on the Pocket PC you need to buy both the PC Topo software (for the maps) AND XMap HandHeld Pro (to view the maps on the Pocket PC.
There are some alternative topo packages for the Pocket PC available, including Memory-Map. Ozi, Fugawi, etc _________________ Lutz

yes i figure if i'm required to buy a software package i would like to make the most use of it. just to clear up my question a little. if i decide to use my own road routing software. with xmap and topo 5 could i use a logged road route from when i used tomtom and bring it up on a topo map to show where i have been? i'm assuming i would be able to view a topo log on a topo map. with that package i would actually make use of the software instead of buying the hardware and throwing the software in the drawer. |

Yes, you can do that, both with the TomTom log AND (independently) with the Blue Logger log - which is much, much better than the TomTom Log. If you had 50 000 data points on TomTom this could easily 200 MB.
The Blue Logger logging is much more flexible - you can log by distance or by time or by a combination of both. The TomTom Logging simply records the NMEA stream. _________________ Lutz
