Can any nav software run on 2 ipaqs?

Hi

I am looking to purchase upgraded Navigation software and wonder if this will run on 2 Ipaqs?

I currently have an Ipaq 3950 and a Navman 3000 GPS sleave and use the memory map software with the aeronautical maps for flying.

My other half has an Ipaq 3630 (which works with the Navman GPS) and is looking for an in car Sat nav system.

Can we purchase any software that will work on both Ipaqs or does the activation process limit the software to one ipaq or just one home PC.

I get the impression that the activation for smartST and tomtom limit the use to one Ipaq - what about other makes?

We would only have 1 copy installed on our home PC - is this allowed or would it count as piracy and not be allowed?

You will have to purchase two copies since you are planning to use the software simultaneously.

Some of the programs allow to re-register on another machine (TomTom allows you a second activation after a week), others have no lock at all (the Intellinav clones or Mapopolis)

Thanks for the response - however we would never be using the software at the same time - we only have 1 Navman GPS 3000 unit and 1 desktop PC at home. We would share the Navman unit when we need it and wondered whether we could probably do the same without buying 2 copies of TomTom, SmartST etc.

What happens when you upgrade to another pocket PC - do you have to contact Navman to get this working?

Even though you won't be using both machines simultaneously, most software licence agreements prohibit installation on two machines at once.


As I've posted before, the TomTom UK licence agreement reads (this comes from a recently bought Navigator 3 software only pack):

1) GRANT OF LICENCE:This TomTom License Agreement ("License") permits you to use the TomTom computer program and the digital (map) data included in the accompanying package acquired with this License on any single computer, provided that the Software is installed on only one computer at any time and provided the Software is combined with only one (1) navigation system. This License is non-exclusive and non-transferable.

This License does not imply any rights to future upgrades or updates of the Software. The use of any upgrades or updates of the Software is governed by this License and may be subject to additional payments.

I think that's pretty clear.
